Anyway, if there is a rich, yarn-gift-loving person out there, I am currently in love with the purple mix. But really, I'm not picky! :)

Honestly though, I've found it easier and easier to say no to yarns when I think of how many years that gapcard has hung over my head, collecting interest (and in the past, late fees. But no more!) I'm trying to pay more than the minimum each month, and putting money into savings too. When I think about going to Asheville in the summer, and San Diego, and how much that will cost, I won't be able to do those things and be paying big ole credit card bills. (Well, bill. but I don't make a lot of money!) So I just think of my future happiness, enjoy the new yarn that's out there, and live vicariously through other peoples' purchases. So please, share your buys on your blog - it's the only way I'm getting new yarn action for a while! *grin*

I've also been working dutifully on the Faux Russian Stole, which is about to become the Faux Russian Baby Blanket because I'm bored of the pattern already. I'll take a picture when it's done, otherwise I might get lazy!

Wow, that's random. We had a lovely stay, and gosh, you just reminded me that I left AN HEIRLOOM QUILT THERE AAAA God I hope she still has it. The only thing that was weird is the bed was SUPER squeaky, where you can't even roll over without someone next door thinking you are seriously kinky, and all night too! But she serves a nice breakfast each day, had a charming garden out back, and there is no parking just so you know.

I'd recommend it. I seriously hope she still has that quilt though...

I just got out of credit card and car debt yesterday. (Yes, really. I paid off the first card in Dec, the car in Jan, and the last card yesterday.) And it feels great. And I KNOW that I have changed my spending habits so it won't happen again.

I hope you don't think I'm pushy, but this is what I did...

Although you may want to pay down the debts as fast as possible, if you can put aside a sum of money each month first, do it. You can start small. My bank (Wachovia) has a systematic saver CD where you can put as little as $50 a month into a CD that matures in a year. You can have the bank account with another bank and have Wachovia automatically transfer it on the day you choose. So you're saving money without really feeling it. (No, I don't work for Wachovia.) It feels good to know that you have some money set aside in case some real emergency (like an emergency root canal) comes up so you won't need to charge it. And since it's a CD, it pretty easy to get at but you won't want to get at it like regular savings because you'll lose the interest you've made.

Put aside a set amount of money and automatically put that toward the debt. I had my credit card take a set amount from my bank account the day after my paycheck went in. I didn't even have to think about it. The money was practically gone before I saw it.

When you get one debt paid off, immediately move the money you were paying on that to another account. Now that everything but my student loan is gone, I moved 1/4 of the credit-and-car-paying-debt money to my student loan (on top of the money I was already paying on the loan), 1/2 to savings, and 1/4 to monthly flex money (so I don't have to dip into my savings!).

And you have to quit charging. ONLY charge when you KNOW you can pay the bill in full. Not because you expect money to come in or think money will come in but because you already have the money or KNOW that your pay check will be coming in. (Automatic deposit is best--remember how many people were delayed checks because the mail service was screwy around 9/11?).

Call the credit card company and ask them to lower your interest rate. One card didn't do it, but the other lower my rate by 13%.

Good luck.

Thanks for the tips, anonymous, but my car is paid off and I just have this one credit card that is long cut up. I used it back before I entered college, and haven't gotten one since. So it sounds as though you and I are on the same page! I hope to never be so far in debt I have to do the "snowball" as my parents did, but congrats on getting all of yours paid off!
